# Handoff Report — Milestone 2: Backend & DB ## 1. Observation We observed the database schema defined in `apps/backend/prisma/schema.prisma` and determined that `Menu` and `MenuItem` models required new fields. We executed the database migration using the following command inside `apps/backend/`: ```bash bunx prisma migrate dev --name add_menu_image_fields ``` This successfully generated the migration file `apps/backend/prisma/migrations/20260629012157_add_menu_image_fields/migration.sql` with content: ```sql -- AlterTable ALTER TABLE "Menu" ADD COLUMN "rootImage" TEXT; -- AlterTable ALTER TABLE "MenuItem" ADD COLUMN "columnImage" TEXT, ADD COLUMN "hoverImage" TEXT; ``` The Prisma client was successfully regenerated with `bunx prisma generate`. We checked packages/types/index.ts and modified `Menu` and `MenuItem` interfaces: - `MenuItem` received optional `columnImage?: string | null` and `hoverImage?: string | null`. - `Menu` received optional `rootImage?: string | null`. We checked and modified routes in `apps/backend/src/routes/menus.ts` to include parser destructuring, TypeBox validation, and transaction mappings. We checked and updated `apps/mcp-server/menu-tools.ts` helper function `validateMenuItems` to validate `columnImage` and `hoverImage`. We updated `apps/mcp-server/menu-toolkit.ts` to add schema validation parameters, pass parameters to backend payload, and display `rootImage` in dryRun preview and response. We verified build/typecheck compilation for all affected projects: - `apps/mcp-server` typecheck command `bun run check` completed with exit code 0. - `apps/admin` typecheck command `bunx tsc -b` completed with exit code 0. - `apps/spa` typecheck command `bunx tsc -b` completed with exit code 0. - `apps/website` typecheck command `bunx tsc --noEmit` completed with exit code 0. ## 2. Logic Chain - Adding `rootImage` to the `Menu` model and `columnImage` / `hoverImage` to the `MenuItem` model in `schema.prisma` enables database storage for Premium Mega Menu image assets. - Running `prisma migrate dev` propagates these schema changes to the local PostgreSQL database and generates client definitions so TypeScript can typecheck the new columns. - Updating `packages/types/index.ts` ensures that frontend and backend share consistent TypeScript interfaces for Menu/MenuItem properties. - Updating routes in `apps/backend/src/routes/menus.ts` allows Elysia validator `t` to accept the new image properties in GET, POST, and PUT payloads and write them to database records via Prisma. - Updating `apps/mcp-server/menu-tools.ts` and `apps/mcp-server/menu-toolkit.ts` exposes the fields to MCP `upsert_menu` tool and performs dryRun rendering safely. - Successful TypeScript compilation across `mcp-server`, `admin`, `spa`, and `website` proves type safety and consistency. ## 3. Caveats - No caveats. The database migration was executed successfully on local DB, client regenerated, type-checked, and routes were modified cleanly. ## 4. Conclusion The backend and database changes for the Premium Mega Menu have been successfully implemented, migrated, and verified across all workspaces. ## 5. Verification Method To independently verify the implementation: 1. Run Prisma client validation to make sure the client matches the schema: ```bash cd apps/backend/ bunx prisma validate ``` 2. Verify the TypeScript compiles successfully: ```bash cd apps/mcp-server/ && bun run check cd apps/admin/ && bunx tsc -b cd apps/spa/ && bunx tsc -b cd apps/website/ && bunx tsc --noEmit ``` 3. Inspect `apps/backend/prisma/migrations/20260629012157_add_menu_image_fields/migration.sql` and verify the columns were created.
