Challenger 2 Verification Report: Milestone 2 (Backend & DB)

Date: 2026-06-28T21:24:01-04:00
Status: Verification Passed for DB & API; Failed (Gap Found) for MCP Tools.

1. Database Schema Verification

Direct PostgreSQL inspection using psql shows that the database fields were correctly added:

  • Menu Table:
    • rootImage of type text, nullable (YES), added successfully.
  • MenuItem Table:
    • columnImage of type text, nullable (YES), added successfully.
    • hoverImage of type text, nullable (YES), added successfully.

2. API Routes Verification (Elysia.js)

We created and executed a test script apps/backend/test_menu_images.ts that verified the following flows against the live Elysia.js server:

A. Insert Menu and Items with Image Fields (POST /api/menus/)

  • Successfully inserted a test menu with name test-challenger-menu-unique.
  • Payload parameters:
    • rootImage: "https://example.com/root-image.jpg"
    • items:
      • Item 1: columnImage: "https://example.com/column-image-1.jpg", hoverImage: "https://example.com/hover-image-1.jpg"
      • Item 2: columnImage: null, hoverImage: null
  • Response Status: 200 OK
  • Database verification via Prisma Client confirmed that:
    • Menu.rootImage is correctly stored as "https://example.com/root-image.jpg".
    • MenuItem.columnImage and MenuItem.hoverImage are stored as "https://example.com/column-image-1.jpg" and "https://example.com/hover-image-1.jpg".
    • Nullable fields are stored as null.

B. Query Backend API (GET /api/menus/{name})

  • Querying GET /api/menus/test-challenger-menu-unique successfully returned:
    • rootImage: "https://example.com/root-image.jpg"
    • Inside items array: columnImage: "https://example.com/column-image-1.jpg" and hoverImage: "https://example.com/hover-image-1.jpg"

C. Update Menu and Items with Image Fields (PUT /api/menus/{name})

  • Querying PUT /api/menus/test-challenger-menu-unique to update:
    • rootImage: "https://example.com/new-root-image.jpg"
    • items[0]: columnImage: "https://example.com/new-column-image-1.jpg", hoverImage: "https://example.com/new-hover-image-1.jpg"
  • Response Status: 200 OK
  • DB verification confirmed that both rootImage and the menu item's image fields were successfully updated in the database.

3. Validation Errors Verification

We verified that incorrect types sent to the API are rejected with validation errors:

  • Invalid rootImage (integer instead of string/null):
    • Body: rootImage: 12345
    • Response Status: 422 Unprocessable Entity
    • Validation message: "Property 'rootImage' should be one of: 'string', 'null'"
  • Invalid columnImage (boolean instead of string/null):
    • Body: columnImage: true
    • Response Status: 422 Unprocessable Entity
    • Validation message: "Property 'items.0.columnImage' should be one of: 'string', 'null'"
  • Invalid hoverImage (object instead of string/null):
    • Body: hoverImage: { url: "https://example.com" }
    • Response Status: 422 Unprocessable Entity
    • Validation message: "Property 'items.0.hoverImage' should be one of: 'string', 'null'"

4. MCP Tools Review (Strict Blackbox Mode)

Per the Strict Blackbox Mode protocol, we audited the schema files exposed by the homaroma_mcp server:

  • Discrepancy Found in upsert_menu:
    • The schema file /home/ti/.gemini/antigravity/mcp/homaroma_mcp/upsert_menu.json does not list rootImage in its top-level properties, nor does it list columnImage or hoverImage in its items array properties.
  • Impact:
    • Because these fields are missing from the schema, clients calling the MCP tool will not know these parameters exist, leading to poor integration and DX. This architectural discrepancy should be resolved by updating the MCP tool schema definition to include the newly added fields.
