Forensic Audit Report

Work Product: Backend & DB modifications for Premium Mega Menu (3 image fields) Profile: General Project Verdict: CLEAN (No Integrity Violations Detected)

Executive Summary

A forensic integrity audit has been conducted on the DB and Backend implementation of the Premium Mega Menu feature (Milestone 2). The implementation comprises the addition of 3 distinct 1:1 aspect ratio image fields across the PostgreSQL database schema (via Prisma), Elysia backend routes, Shared TypeScript interfaces, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server tool definitions.

The audit verified:

  1. Genuine database schema modifications and migration.
  2. Full mapping of rootImage, columnImage, and hoverImage within database transactions.
  3. Authentic tool registration and parameters validation on the MCP server.
  4. Correct runtime behavior under programmatic test invocation.

No facade implementations, bypassed transactions, or hardcoded test results were detected.

Phase Results

Phase 1: Source Code Analysis

  • Hardcoded Output Detection: PASS
    • Checked all modified backend routes and MCP tools. Found no mock variables, hardcoded JSON results mimicking successful test outputs, or spoofed API return statements.
  • Facade Implementation Detection: PASS
    • The Elysia route controllers (apps/backend/src/routes/menus.ts) execute real database queries (prisma.menu.create, prisma.menu.update, $transaction for MenuItems) using input variables.
    • Validation rules on the route body schemas (Elysia t.Object) and the MCP toolkit schemas properly assert validation constraints.
  • Pre-populated Artifact Detection: PASS
    • Searched the workspace for pre-populated .log or .txt test report outputs. Standard compilation logs (out.log and out2.log) from pre-existing typechecking processes were present, but no fake test report attachments exist.

Phase 2: Behavioral Verification

  • Build Verification: PASS
    • The Prisma client builds cleanly via bun run build (prisma generate), processing the updated schema.
    • The mcp-server compiles with zero TypeScript errors.
  • Behavioral Verification / Transaction Mapping: PASS
    • Executed the comprehensive integration test test_menu_api_challenger.ts which connects to the local dev PostgreSQL instance.
    • Confirmed that rootImage (associated with the Menu model), columnImage (associated with the MenuItem model), and hoverImage (associated with the MenuItem model) are successfully created via POST /api/menus, retrieved via GET /api/menus/:name, and updated via PUT /api/menus/:name.
    • Verified that Elysia properly throws type-validation errors (422) if parameters are of incorrect types (e.g. number for rootImage).

Detailed Evidence & Observations

1. Database Schema Changes (apps/backend/prisma/schema.prisma)

The 3 image fields were added as nullable strings to their respective tables:

  • rootImage in model Menu (associated with the far left of the dropdown panel).
  • columnImage in model MenuItem (renders next to/above column title).
  • hoverImage in model MenuItem (renders on far right on link hover).
model Menu {
  id        Int        @id @default(autoincrement())
  name      String     @unique // e.g., "header", "footer"
  payload   Json?
  rootImage String?
  isActive  Boolean    @default(true)
  items     MenuItem[]
  createdAt DateTime   @default(now())
  updatedAt DateTime   @updatedAt
}

model MenuItem {
  id           Int                   @id @default(autoincrement())
  menuId       Int
  menu Menu @relation(fields: [menuId], references: [id], onDelete: Cascade)
  label        String
  url          String
  order        Int                   @default(0)
  columnImage  String?
  hoverImage   String?
  translations MenuItemTranslation[]
  createdAt    DateTime              @default(now())
  updatedAt    DateTime              @updatedAt
}

2. Transaction and Router Mapping (apps/backend/src/routes/menus.ts)

The Elyia router handles parsing and db persistence inside database transactions:

  • POST /:
    const { name, rootImage, items } = body as { ... };
    const menu = await prisma.menu.create({
      data: {
        name,
        rootImage,
        items: items ? {
          create: items.map(item => ({
            label: item.label,
            url: item.url,
            order: item.order,
            columnImage: item.columnImage,
            hoverImage: item.hoverImage
          }))
        } : undefined
      },
      ...

  • PUT /:name:
    const { items, payload, isActive, rootImage } = body as { ... };
    ...
    if (rootImage !== undefined) updateData.rootImage = rootImage;
    ...
    await prisma.$transaction(async (tx: any) => {
      ...
      await tx.menuItem.update({
        where: { id: item.id },
        data: {
          label: item.label,
          url: item.url,
          order: item.order,
          columnImage: item.columnImage,
          hoverImage: item.hoverImage
        }
      });
      ...
      await tx.menuItem.create({
        data: {
          menuId: menu!.id,
          label: item.label,
          url: item.url,
          order: item.order,
          columnImage: item.columnImage,
          hoverImage: item.hoverImage,
          ...

3. Shared Type Definitions (packages/types/index.ts)

Shared contract objects were properly modified:

export interface MenuItem {
  id: number
  label: string
  url: string
  order: number
  columnImage?: string | null
  hoverImage?: string | null
  translations?: any[]
}

export interface Menu {
  id: number
  name: string
  items: MenuItem[]
  payload?: any
  rootImage?: string | null
}

4. MCP Server Definition & Validation (apps/mcp-server/menu-tools.ts, apps/mcp-server/menu-toolkit.ts)

  • Toolkit Definition: Schema definition in MENU_TOOL_DEFINITIONS was expanded to include rootImage, columnImage, and hoverImage under the upsert_menu tool properties.
  • Helper Tools Validation: The validateMenuItems helper asserts type requirements for the two newly added item fields:
    if (item.columnImage !== undefined && item.columnImage !== null && typeof item.columnImage !== "string") {
      issues.push(`items[${index}].columnImage must be a string or null when provided`);
    }
    if (item.hoverImage !== undefined && item.hoverImage !== null && typeof item.hoverImage !== "string") {
      issues.push(`items[${index}].hoverImage must be a string or null when provided`);
    }

  • Handler Mapping: The handler handleMenuTool successfully copies params.rootImage to body.rootImage and forwards all arguments to the Elysia API PUT backend.

5. Programmatic Execution Outputs (test_menu_api_challenger.ts)

The integration test confirmed:

  • Successful menu creation (200 OK on POST) with rootImage, columnImage, and hoverImage.
  • Correct retrieval (200 OK on GET) showing matches with input URLs.
  • Correct update (200 OK on PUT) persisting modification values.
  • Proper API schema validation rejection (422 Unprocessable Entity on POST) for invalid type inputs (e.g. rootImage: 12345).

Verdict
